International Championship Festival
The International Championship Festival is the final tournament of the Zain Africa Challenge year. Thirty-two student teams from Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia attended. It was held in Kampala, Uganda on 28 January - 3 February, 2010.
The 32 teams competed in playoff games and the final 16 advanced to a 15-game knockout, recorded for TV broadcast throughout continental Africa.
Teams compete for institutional grants for their universities and educational grants for themselves. The further the team progresses in the tournament, the larger the Zain grants they receive.
The Zain Africa Challenge Championship Festival is a live event. The games are its centrepiece, but it also features welcoming activities, social and cultural events, guest speakers, celebrity performances and a gala championship awards banquet.
In addition to the teams, attendees include university officials, government leaders, civic leaders along with volunteers representing Zain and the community at large.
